More commonly known as Solid Silver, 925 Silver owes its name to its composition made of 925 thousandths of pure silver and 75 thousandths of copper purified with oxygen. This contribution of copper is essential for working with silver; without copper it would be impossible to work with the initial material, which is much too elastic and fragile. Thus, 950 Silver exists but blackens and deteriorates very quickly, as for 999 Silver it is only found in the form of ingots in order to be systematically re-associated with copper and gain mechanical resistance.

If the largest silver mines are currently found in Mexico, Guatemala and Russia, it is in Mesopotamia that we find the first traces of mining and separation of silver from lead 4000 BC. The Romans would find deposits in Spain much later, extracting more than 200 tonnes per year, a record sadly broken 1000 years later with the discovery of South America and the arrival of settlers in Bolivia on the hill of Potosi. Silver is a rare material, its clarke - the index which defines its presence on the earth's surface - is 0.1 g per tonne (compared to 0.05 for Gold).

A chemical element like gold and diamonds, silver is no less magical and its symbolic value far exceeds its atomic number (47). The Egyptians were already convinced that the bones of the gods were made of silver and their flesh made of gold. During antiquity, the first alchemists classified it among the 7 sacred metals with Gold, Copper, Lead, Tin, Iron and Mercury. The objective of their quest for the philosopher's stone was therefore to transform other metals (classified as "vile") into these perfect materials. Each sacred metal was associated with a planet, a divinity, an organ... Gold became light, associated with the Sun and the heart; silver was purity, associated with the Moon, the brain and intelligence.

It is certainly for this reason that the 925 Silver is stamped with a hallmark in the head of Minerva, goddess of war but also of strategy and industry. Each LE GRAMME 925 Silver bracelet has three hallmarks: the Minerva (State hallmark certifying the quality of the precious metal), the maker's stamp and that of LE GRAMME. Placing the punch constitutes the last step in manufacturing LE GRAMME variations. Before hallmarking, the 925 Silver will have undergone multiple transformations, the craftsman stretching the material, structuring each shape to make it absolute, calibrating each imprint - smooth or guilloché with patterns -, surfacing the metal to give it its polished or brushed finish.
